TRIBBLE ALERT!
I am having Trouble with Tribbles......any Trekkies out there??

The machine knit version does not lay down flat like the hand knit one...so, be flexible.

The machine knit one will be more pouf-ty and will actually fit a bar of soap very well...xoxo Celeste

You must know the gauge of your machine, contact Celeste if you are not sure!
Each gauge of machine will knit a certain range of yarns. You can always use a thinner yarn and sometimes a heavier yarn (we’ll discuss this in class.)  Below is a general guideline for the different machines and their range of yarns.

Fine gauge: very rarely seen machine, laceweight is the thickest yarn it can handle.
Standard gauge: the thickest yarn you can use is maybe a thin DK
Mid-Gauge: the thickest yarn you can use is worsted
Bulky: the thickest yarn is chunky/ thin aran weight

Have the knitting machine in good working order & clean it up a bit!
Bring Any and All accessories that you have for the machine (but no ribbers.)
Bring Any and All hand tools you have for the machine.
Bring your machine manual if you have one.

We will check everyone’s sponge bar (don’t worry if you don’t know what this is.) If your’s is no good, I will have the supplies to “rebuild” a new one. YOU MUST BRING your current sponge bar in order to “rebuild.” Those of you with Studio LK models don’t have to worry about the bar as your machines hold the sponge differently.

If you are not sure: bring everything.

Scrap yarn:
anything you don't mind throwing out, scrap yarn is used as “waste” cast on & holding yarn. The gauge of the scrap should match or be thinner than your machine gauge.

A variety of yarns to practice with. The yarn weight should match the gauge of your machine or be thinner that your machine gauge.

Projects:

Lace Ruffles Scarf: 50 gram or about 110 yds of mohair or other lace/fingering/sock weight yarn. You will use this weight yarn no matter what gauge machine you have. If you have a mid-gauge or bulky you can go up to a dk/sport weight but it will not have the same gossomar look.

Tribbles: you will be knitting about 3-4” wide by about 20-30 rows so any leftover bits of cotton, cotton blends, superwash or even wool. I have been making some out of wool and then fulling them, it makes a nice bath washcloth!

If you are interested in making the Farmers Market Bag: you need about 500 yds of rugged yarn.
